PloughmansThe Lime House Café serves hot and cold drinks, cakes, scones, sandwiches and salads alongside a changing daily specials menu. Look out for locally produced ingredients, such as the blue cheese Stichelton which is made on The Welbeck Estate.

Homemade cakes and scones are baked daily, and may include Chocolate Guinness Cake, Carrot Cake or Victoria Sponge.

Meals are served until 3.00pm.

Situated in the former gasworks on the Welbeck Estate, this bright and cheerful café has a good selection of cakes and scones. Next door is the Harley Gallery and Craft Shop, so plenty to look at and buy.

Cafe-interiorThe building dates from 1893 when it was built as part of the Victorian gas works. The ‘Lime House’ was used in the purification process of the gas, which was then stored in large, circular gasometers – you can still see the outlines of these in the courtyard.

The shell of this building remains exposed in the interior of the Café, which was designed by Real Studios, London. Real Studios’ projects include the David Bowie Is… exhibition at the V&A and designs for Virgin Limited Editions.
