The building dates from 1893 when it was built as part of the Victorian gas works. The ‘Lime House’ was used in the purification process of the gas, which was then stored in large, circular gasometers – you can still see the outlines of these in the courtyard.
The shell of this building remains exposed in the interior of the Café, which was designed by Real Studios, London. Real Studios’ projects include the David Bowie Is… exhibition at the V&A and designs for Virgin Limited Editions.
