Make your Mark is an introductory workshop into mark-making. Throughout the workshop the children will explore and experiment with different materials, learn new skills, make decisions and discover the value of making marks within art and design.

The workshop will begin with a tour of  The Harley Open exhibition. Using a variety of activity sheets children will be encouraged to look more closely at the artworks on display, developing the children’s own tastes and judgements. The sheets will focus on aesthetic awareness in relation to colour, texture, pattern, shape and structure.

They will:

  • Think and discuss what mark marking is and look at examples of the artist’s work.
  • Make marks to music – making decisions about which mark fits the music.
  • Explore and experiment using different materials in activities e.g. rubbings, printing with everyday objects.
