For this monthly walk and talk, Gallery Director, Lisa Gee will focus on Welbeck’s own aristocratic women who made remarkable choices.  What their importance is and why they have been overlooked, from the first sci-fi writer to a natural historian and a great philanthropist, strong women have a history of thriving at Welbeck.

The talk will focus on:

  • Margaret Cavendish, 2nd Duchess of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (1623-1673)
  • Margaret Cavendish Bentinck, 2nd Duchess of Portland (1715-1785)
  • Winifred Cavendish Bentinck, 6th Duchess of Portland (1863-1954)

Discover more about these extraordinary women in The Portland Collection’s current exhibition ‘Men, Women and Things‘ or step inside their ancestral home on a Welbeck Abbey State Room Tour.
