Introducing the Jerwood Collection: A Curator’s Choice is the first exhibition of this year-long residency at The Harley Gallery. It has been selected by Lara Wardle, the Director and Curator of the Jerwood Collection.
Lara is a specialist in 20th-century British art, and she has a particular interest in mid-century UK artists. She has over 20 years’ experience, including Head of Day Sale and Associate Director at Christie’s. She has been the curator of an array of exhibitions on British art which have been shown across the country.
Lara’s exhibition will include a range of paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures from the Jerwood Collection, which range from c.1910 right up to 2019.
Upstairs you will find the ‘dinner table’ sound installation, where you can hear Maggi Hambling, Dame Elisabeth Frink, John Wells, Terry Frost, Wilhelmina Barnes Graham, Sandra Blow, Margaret Mellis and Adrian Heath speaking about their lives and influences.
Now, more than ever before in many people’s lifetimes, we are living in a challenging and changing world. Looking at art can give us a chance to escape from the everyday. I hope that the Jerwood Collection will bring enjoyment to visitors to The Harley Gallery during 2021 and early 2022.
