Most people in Britain own one of his artworks, for Peter Blake created some of the most celebrated album covers of all time. These include Paul Weller’s ‘Stanley Road’ , ‘Band’ Aid’ and most famous of all, the Beatle’s, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. More recently Sir Peter has created the artwork for the new Oasis sleeve and the John Peel tribute album.
However, his album covers are only the tip of his creative practice. Blake is a master draftsman and painter, printmaker, sculptor and collagist. He maintains a prolific artistic output in all of these areas despite his self-confessed semi-retirement.
This exhibition featured Blake’s most recent explorations in print and sculpture which had previously not been exhibited outside London.
