Pop Art icon Sir Peter Blake showed original collages inspired by journeys –both real and imagined, which reveal his fascination with the surreal and comedic opportunities presented by the use of collage.

Sir Peter Blake is renowned for his work in collage, and this series shows his mastery of the technique. These pieces might include images from postcards, magazines or found ephemera.

He undertook his own Grand Tour of Europe in 1956-7 after leaving art college. Now in his 80’s, Sir Peter doesn’t travel so much, but he constantly creates imaginary journeys while never moving very far from his collage table.

“I suppose I have, again and again, invented these trips, which I then don’t take.”
